Labor Market Coordination and Monetary Equilibrium: W H. Hutt's Place in "Pre-Keynesian" Macro
نویسنده
چکیده
Two major themes pervade the outstanding contributions of W H. Hutt. The first is his attempt to clarify and advance our understanding of the coordination process of the market, especially the market for labor, and the second is his career-long critique of the Keynesian theoretical framework. It becomes quickly obvious from reading almost any of his books, and many of his articles, that those two themes were very tightly linked in Hutt's mind. It is fair to say that although his critiques of Keynes are both broad and deep, they rest fundamentally on the view of the labor market he first sketched out in The Theoiy of Idle Resources in 1939. Having clarified the nature of idleness, Hutt proceeded to show the problems which would result if inflation, rather than the "natural" price coordination process, was used to reduce the existing level of idleness, particularly in labor. Thus, Hutt's contributions to n~acroeconomics explore the intersection between monetary phenomena, such as inflation and deflation, and the microeconomic coordination process of the labor market.

Dynamic Labor Market in a Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Model: Case Study of Iranian Economy
The labor market, as one of the four markets, plays an important role in economic growth and development. So review developments in the labor market because of its close relationship with developments in other sectors is of great importance. متن کاملNonlinear Phillips Curve and Monetary Policy in a Keynesian Macroeconometric Model
In the framework of a Keynesian monetary macro model we study implications of a kinked Phillips-Curve and alternativemonetary policy rules. As alternative monetary policy rules we consider monetary growth targeting and interest rate targeting (the Taylor rule). Our monetary macro model exhibits: asset market clearing, disequilibrium in product and labor markets, sluggish price and quantity adju...
متن کاملComments on “Credit Frictions and Optimal Monetary Policy”, by Cúrdia and Woodford∗
Let me first briefly place it in the broader context of current macroeconomic research. First-generation new-Keynesian models, of the type analyzed by Woodford in his well-known book (2003), were based on a few central imperfections, namely monopolistic competition to allow for non-trivial market power and price setting, and nominal rigidities; their purpose was to show how shifts in demand cou...
متن کاملEvaluation of Monetary and Fiscal Policy Based on New Keynesian Dynamic General Equilibrium Model in Iran’s Economy
This paper examines monetary and fiscal policy through the estimation of a New-Keynesian dynamic general equilibrium model for Iran’s economy. In this New-Keynesian dynamic general equilibrium model, the consumers encounter the liquidity constraint and the firms face sticky prices, while they are changing them. In the model presented, a role is considered for both government spending and taxati...
